Gary Dixon, Jr.
Vice President, Teamsters Local 959
Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, Gary is a 25+ year member of Teamsters Local 959.
Gary's teamster career began with working in Prudhoe Bay in 1985 for Houston Contracting Company. Over the years, he was both a shop steward and a general foreman on some of the largest pipeline and maintenance projects in Prudhoe Bay and the Trans Alaska Pipeline System. Gary had also worked for United Freight and Transport, Inc. as a hostler before joining Teamsters Local 959 as a business representative in January 2007.
Gary is the current Vice President on the Teamsters' Executive Board; Director of Construction; a trustee on the Alaska Teamster-Employer Service Training Trust; a labor trustee on the Alaska Construction Industry Substance Abuse Program; and sits on the Board of Directors for Alaska Works Partnership representing Teamsters Local 959. Prior to his election by the membership to the Executive Board, Gary ran, and was elected, to represent the membership at the 2006 International Teamsters Convention.
Gary is very proud of the accomplishments of the Local's Executive Board since being in office. One such accomplishment was paying off the Anchorage office building early, thereby saving monies in finance charges.
Gary attended West Anchorage High School and the University of Alaska, Anchorage (UAA). He played hockey for UAA and also played junior hockey for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League. In addition, he is an avid golfer and fisherman.
