Job Details Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hrs. Essential Duties & Job Functions: Diagnose & repair electrical, hydraulic, chassis & body service issues related to all emergency vehicles; perform periodic maintenance & inspections in accordance with NFPA requirements; analyze malfunctions, repair, rebuild & maintain power equipment such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, bulldozers, pumps, compressors & pneumatic tools. Repair, rebuild or overhaul major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors; inspect & test fire apparatus, vehicles & related equipment to ensure safe & efficient operating conditions; dismantle, clean & reassemble equipment using hoists, hand tools & other equipment; examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers & gauges; replace defective engines & subassemblies such as transmissions; test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency; weld broken parts & structural members; responsible for inspection, maintenance & repair of vehicles & heavy equipment; perform generalized maintenance on equipment as required & needed; diagnose the source of trouble & determine the extent of repairs required; repair, rebuild & maintain various types of motor vehicles & related equipment including but not limited to engines, drivelines, brakes, pumping assemblies & hydraulic systems; replace worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings or other engine parts; grind & adjust valves; rebuild carburetors; overhaul transmissions; repair fuel injection systems, lighting system, ignition systems & other vehicle systems; operate vehicles, trucks & equipment to facilitate maintenance or repair actions; administer the warranty program for vehicles under warranty & responsible for placing orders for parts & supplies; conduct recovery operation of disabled vehicles. Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of a formal motor vehicle mechanic apprenticeship or a combination of equivalent training & experience may be substituted for formal apprenticeship; three (3) years experience with heavy construction equipment; two (2) years experience in a motor pool or commercial maintenance facility; must attain a Class B CDL with Haz & Tanker endorsements within 90 days of hire; one (1) year technical training & a minimum of three (3) years practical experience & successful completion of applicable military training or civilian apprenticeship or factory training program; two (2) years experience operating various types of heavy equipment; U.S. citizen; obtain & maintain a Federal Government Security Clearance (NACI); ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical & drug test; pass a Fire Brigade physical & remain an active member of the Fire Brigade. Must re-locate to King Salmon. Housing is provided for the employee only.
