Job Details The Anchorage School District requires that applicants who are given a conditional offer of initial employment for this position must successfully pass a post offer/pre-employment physical capacities assessment before they can be placed into the position. The Facilities Maintenance Helper is a classified position based in the Maintenance Department. The helper will report to a department lead & work in a location subject to contract language concerning shift location/bids. The position is responsible for the maintenance of grounds within District facilities. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) & is represented by the Teamsters Local 959 Warehouse & Maintenance Employees bargaining unit. Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; must be 18 yrs. or older; minimum 3 yrs. experience within the past 5 yrs. in the operation of motorized construction equipment; must posses AK class B CDL or obtain one within 6 month of hire; must be able to establish & maintain effective working relationships w/others. The following is preferred: Two yrs. experience in the field of facility and/or grounds maintenance; experience in landscaping & grounds maintenance; ability to write reports as needed. Essential job functions: Under the supervision of craft specialist & senior general maintenance workers, works to assist in tasks such as: perform maintenance on water or sewer systems to include soldering, threading, thawing, unplugging, fixture cleaning, adjustment & service; perform maintenance on HVAC equipment to include cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, changing filters & testing; maintenance & minor repair on building to include painting, minor carpentry, minor glass replacement & minor millwork replacement; remove snow & sand from school parking lots, fire lanes, loading docks & driveways; perform landscaping duties, including using a riding lawn mower; repair & install signs & fences; maintain & repair concrete & asphalt and work within established safety procedures.
